Report cards are issued four (4) times during the year, at the end of each nine (9) week grading period. A progress report is also sent home with each student in the middle of each nine-week grading period. This allows teachers and parents an extra opportunity to communicate regarding the student’s academic and behavioral progress. Parent/ Teacher Conferences Parent-Teacher conferences are held at the end of the first and third grading periods. During this time, your child’s teacher will have many things to share with you. Because the time frame is limited, please give consideration in advance to things you would like to discuss with the teacher. You may request a conference at any time during the year. In addition, your child’s teacher is always as close as the telephone, or a letter. At Children First Academy we feel that the communication line between teacher-student-parent is of vital importance. Homework Homework is a bridge between the school and the home, between the teacher and the parent. It is not only important for reinforcement of academic concepts, but is used as a training tool for self-discipline. It is important for your child to learn to work independently, use his/her time wisely and develop a sense of responsibility. These are skills the student will need throughout his/her life. Unfortunately, homework can sometimes become one of the obstacles to student success. A student’s inability to complete homework, whether due to lack of discipline or uncontrollable factors, can have a demoralizing effect. With this in mind, all homework assignments given will be carefully evaluated to ensure that they provide a clear benefit to the student. Please communicate with the teacher if you feel the homework is not appropriate.
Homework is to be used to reinforce skills already taught, enhance independent study habits, and introduce material such as background for history or literature Homework assignments should be meaningful and applicable to the development of responsibility and academic growth The time requirement for completion of assignments will be carefully considered. Please communicate with your child’s teacher if there are concerns about the amount of the homework givenHOMEWORK REQUIREMENTS All major assignments, including final exams, science projects and major research reports will be announced as early as possible Teachers will monitor homework completion. Parents will be advised when homework is not turned in and completed on a regular basis It is the student’s responsibility to make up all missed workSUGGESTIONS FOR ASSISTING STUDENTS WITH HOMEWORK Have a positive attitude toward homework in all subjects. Statements such as, “It’s okay, I never understood math either, “ might convey the impression that you don’t believe this subject is important Require your child to show you his/her homework assignments every day. If there is any doubt about an assignment, contract your child’s teacher to verify the assignment Avoid criticizing an assignment or teacher in your child’s presence Ask the teacher for recommendations on what materials are available to help your student. Be patient in working with you child. Provide assistance, but do not do the homework for him/her. If the atmosphere becomes tense or if you cannot provide assistance, call the child’s teacher for help. Teachers are willing to assist the student before or after school if necessary. |
